Bill Gates made the same accusation about cars. A top honcho at GM
asked an auditorium full of people if they'd buy a car that crashed
twice a day.. A car where you'd have to stop and reinstall the engine
for no particular reason.

Basically, cars are using the same technology as Henry Ford's. Power
source, drive train, tires, etc. The improvements have been cosmetic
and evolutionary. It's been proven to be extremely reliable and,
unless you're a very bad driver, rarely crashes from mechanical
failure.

Shortwave broadcasting is over

If you really believed this, you wouldn't get so upset when you read
about all the stuff others are hearing on shortwave.

Perhaps for you. You're too stupid to operate one anyway.

Yah, BBC screwed it up IMHO..
Should've stayed with Shortwave..

They could have added windmill farms to provide electricity for
broadcasting.

Windmill farms are not going to put HF radios into people's homes.
Shortwave broadcasting is over. (Except for religious nuts and a few
assorted despots).

Then get yourself a map and hit the road, 'tard.

By the way, if you want to hear what Radio 1 sounds like, try
(assuming Windoze with a normal RA player installation)

If you don't have the patience to repair your antenna, perhaps this
will help:

I have 3 antennas. They all work fine, for what they are.

My ICOM R-75 is fed by a 120' Horizontal L,

My Drake R8B is fed by a 50' Wire driving 100' of RG-8U via Palomar
''MLB-1'' UnUn.

My Drake SW2 is fed by an MFJ-1024, also through 100' of RG-8U

I can get AIR on the 2 wire antennas; I don't think I've tried on the
SW2 (my bedside radio; now that I have the BBC World Service on
satellite 24/7, I just use the SW2 for MW most of the time).

I mainly use my 2 big radios for UTEs. I like having friends, and
normal people are sort of put-off by loud flanging broadcasts from the
Azores or the Carribbean or whatever.

AH! F*&ck em..!

Listening to radio New Zealand, bounced off The Ionosphere, is a true
joy.
Going Hiking, pulling out a small SWR at Lunch, and tuning into the BBC
from Ascension Island is cool..

Some just like Big Ass T.V.
Some Just like Rap
Some like Shortwave radio..

Life is short.. it's so cool listening to 11.117 USB while going to
sleep
