I wish there was not a war, and I wish our young people did not have to fight and die. But I cannot wish away evil men like Bin Laden and al-Zarqawi. A very touching and poetic and sad story. I guess this means that the brave soldier above is added to the count of 1700 plus dead (to say nothing of the 13,000 or so brave young men and women who are missing arms, legs and various other body parts). I 110% support out troops, but please refresh my memory as to why we are in Iraq and tell me why our kids are ending up like that. First, no one has ever said that Bin Laden and al-Zarqawi are in Iraq. Paul (sorry, I forgot his last name), the former Secretary of Treasury, said in his book that W was itching to go into Iraq from Day One. Another guy, the Security Adviser for Clinton *and* W, said the same thing in his book. The recently revealed "Downing Street Memo" said exactly the same thing. Not one, not two, but three--count 'em, *THREE*-- UN inspectors said there *are no WMDs in Iraq*. Around Christmas time of 2004 even W's own administration *admitted* there were no WMDs in Iraq. Oh, as a final note, 15 of the 19 mad dog 9/11 a$$holes were from --are you ready for this?-- Saudi Arabia! I don't think any of them were from Iraq. Tell me why we are not in Saudi Arabia--it would at least make a bit more sense. How many "smoking guns" do you need before you realize that we are maiming and killing our kids for bogus reasons (dare I say lies)? So, please, tell me again why we are in Iraq and why we have to read sad stories like the above about our brave young kids. 73, Carter K8VT P.S. ....and puh-leze don't trot out the tired old saw that we are at war because "Saddam was a mean, rotten guy and that the world is better off with out him". There are numerous mean, rotten ******* leaders in this world that fit that description and we are not doing anything about them. Heck, from seeing all the world-wide anti-W demonstrations on TV, there are probably a few million people around the world (and 49% of the American voters) that think the world would be a better place without W. at the helm. So what? Neither is a reason to go to war. |
