Default Determining If A Rec'd Station Is From A Relay: How ?

Hi,

For a beginner like me, was pretty thrilled thinking I picked up China Radio
International direct.

But as replies to my post of last evening mentioned, it appears that all
I received was a relay from Sackvill, New Brunswick.

So I guess this brings up the question:

Is there any way for a Newbie like me to (easily) determine if what I am
picking up
is direct, or a relay from somewhere else ?

Thanks,
Bob

For English language broadcasts go to http://www.primetimeshortwave.com and
get the ascii "sorted by time" schedule". Relay codes are listed and appear in the
schedule beside a frequency that is a relay. Target areas for broadcasts appear in
"notes".

For all broadcasts get bc-a05.txt at http://www.eibi.de.vu
Transmitter sites appear near the end of the text and are a bit harder to figure out
since they are listed by each country's abbreviation.

Example:

0100 0157 CHN China Radio Int. E WNA 9790/CAN ENA 9580/CUB

Country China, Station China Radio International broadcasting in English to Western North America on
9790 out of Canada and Eastern North America on 9580 from Cuba

Using a database, such as ILG will help. It will tell you such things
as where the signal is from, who the intended target is, and what the
power is.
(and yes, the first time I "caught" CRI, I was disappointed when I
found out it was from Sackville)
