Peat Bog Thaw: Tipping Point May Be At Hand
Siberia's rapid thaw causes alarm
The whole western Siberian sub-Arctic region has started to thaw The world's largest frozen peat bog is melting, which could speed the rate of global warming, New Scientist reports. The huge expanse of western Siberia is thawing for the first time since its formation, 11,000 years ago. The area, which is the size of France and Germany combined, could release billions of tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. This could potentially act as a tipping point, causing global warming to snowball, scientists fear. The situation is an "ecological landslide that is probably irreversible and is undoubtedly connected to climatic warming," researcher Sergei Kirpotin, of Tomsk State University, Russia, told New Scientist magazine. The whole western Siberian sub-Arctic region has started to thaw, he added, and this "has all happened in the last three or four years". Warming fast Western Siberia has warmed faster than almost anywhere on the planet, with average temperatures increasing by about 3C in the last 40 years. The warming is believed to be due to a combination of man-made climate change, a cyclical atmospheric phenomenon known as the Arctic oscillation and feedbacks caused by melting ice. When you start messing around with these natural systems, you can end up in situations where it's unstoppable The 11,000-year-old bogs contain billions of tonnes of methane, most of which has been trapped in permafrost and deeper ice-like structures called clathrates. But if the bogs melt, there is a big risk their hefty methane load could be dumped into the atmosphere, accelerating global warming. Scientists have reacted with alarm at the finding, warning that future global temperature predictions may have to be revised. "When you start messing around with these natural systems, you can end up in situations where it's unstoppable," David Viner, of the University of East Anglia, UK, told the Guardian newspaper. "There are no brakes you can apply. "This is a big deal because you can't put the permafrost back once it's gone. The causal effect is human activity and it will ramp up temperatures even more than our emissions are doing." The intergovernmental panel on climate change speculated in 2001 that global temperatures would rise between 1.4C and 5.8C between 1990 and 2100. However these estimates only considered global warming sparked by known greenhouse gas emissions. "These positive feedbacks with landmasses weren't known about then," Dr Viner said. "They had no idea how much they would add to global warming." |

That it is happening is beyond doubt. A trip through alaska reveals glaciers melting rapidly. |

Have any of y'all ever seen the Book Of Kells before? The original Book
Of Kells was found in a Bog in Ireland many years ago. That Book Of Kells sits in a locked glass showcase in Dublin,Ireland Library and each day, someone who works for that Library unlocks that case and turns a page and then locks the case back up.When Metrocenter Mall www.metromalljackson.com opened for business in November,1977,I went over there across Highway 80 from me to check out the new shopping Mall.Inside the Waldensbooks book store on the book selves was a reprint of the Book Of Kells and naturally,I bought that reprint Book Of Kells. The book is sitting inside of my old antique shift robe closet (I brought that old shift robe closet from my old homeplace in Carthage,Mississippi many years ago) in my bedroom right now. www.devilfinder.com Book Of Kells Ireland cuhulin |

Not a damm 4-wheeler old lady car. Get an old rusted out Ford PU, then you can toss yer beer cans and soda cans in the tailbed and as you drive you can watch and bet when the cans FALL THRU the rust holes onto the highway below whilst turning or changing lanes on the Interstate. Trucks I have owned before.1948 Chevrolet Pickup truck,1954 Ford one ton
truck which I bought at East Ford Company dealership,it had a big box bed/body behind the cab,it originally was previously owned by a farmer in Illinois and later on,I traded that truck for a 1967 Ford pickup truck which I traded that truck for the 1948 Chevrolet pickup truck to a guy who worked where I worked at Delta Cotton Oil company on Valley Street.Later on,I bought a 1968 Chevrolet pickup truck from another guy who worked at Delta Cotton Oil company.I am not a redneck (you dont know how the word/term redneck/rednecks came about) Sure,I like trucks,my vans (1971 Chevrolet van,my 1978 Dodge van,my 1982 Ford van,my 1971 big ex-bread truck van,my 1942 Willys World War Two Jeep,my 1948 Willys civilian Jeep, are all classified as trucks.I prefer my Jeeps and my vans and my 1914 Ford Model T Runabout Roadster car (it isn't for sale or trade) to regular style trucks and pickup trucks.I am not the "image" of a redneck in yours or anybody elses feeble little Nitwit Numbskull "mind" driving down the road and throwing my empty beer cans in the back of a pickup truck.I do my beer drinking right here on my couch in my house and I throw my empty beer cans in a big plastic garbage bag.Anything else you think! Here's clue about Science. It works by having a crowd of people come up with all sorts of different ideas. Each person or group comes up with a set, and the rest of the group work to tear it to shreds. So if you go back a bit in time, before the dust has settled, you'll find a serious scientist saying JUST ABOUT ANYTHING. It's not what one scientist says, it's what they select as a consensus. Listen to one scientist, and you can be listening to a total crank, like your example in the next paragraph. Through out earths history their have been many ice ages followed by warming periods. One could say the earth is warming up, because we are now coming out of a 10,000 year ice age. Man has little to nothing to do with it. Read anything by Dr. Dixie Lee Ray, I believe is her name, and she spells it out quite well. Er, she was an Atomic Energy Commissioner and then Governor of the State of Washington. So put her in the Politician category, not the Scientist category. (And having been a state employee that that time, not a very good one, either). Before that, she was a Marine Biologist and then ran a museum (the Seattle Science Center). So her expertise was in kelp or worms or something like that. And ****ing people off. She was real good at ****ing people off, but not very good at having a scientific model that made good predictions. In other words, she could say wrong or stupid things with great certainty. These are be sold as "SunLight Bulb" (Sky Blue Label) and are rated at 135 Light Output 2000 Lumens with only a 30 Watt Energy Use and a 6000 Hour Life. A ''halogen'' bulb is simply an incandescent with gas, rather than a vacuum, inside the bulb. It still uses 90% of the energy going into it to produce heat, rather than visible light. $8 a bulb is way too high for a CF. Try the 5-packs at Home Depot.
