There have been far worse hurricanes in recent years that covered the same area. Though there is always the potential for an off-shore platform to suffer some kind of structural failure for a variety of reasons, there's nothing to indicate this particular storm spells "doom" for any of them. Storm winds already at 160 MPH (knots?), making it a category 5, and it is expected to gain strength before it hits landfall. Some estimates are for 195 MPH winds.. worst storm to hit the Gulf coast since Camille (we left Corpus Christi just before Camille leveled our whole neighborhood, which was just two blocks from the beach) Corpus Christi? Camille hit Long Beach, Mississippi then tracked up to Virginia. -- Stinger |
