That is something I don't really care for.Radios that have chips (ROM
and whatever) that need to be replaced once in a while to keep them
usefull,and for a fee too? To me,in my opinion,it is sort of like having
to replace parts in a computer or buy a new computer once in a while to
keep updated/upgraded.I prefer my old beat up Goodwill store radios.

I agree. Most of us will fill memories on a radio with the frequencies
and band cutoffs we find useful. I assume the target audience for that
radio is a well off person who travels a lot and like gedgets. Unless
that person has the technical acumen to both wade through a large
owners manual to figure out the commands and keep the ROM up to date, I
think it will probably turn into an expensive lightly used AM/FM
receiver.

I think ROM updates are a needlessly expensive and outdated way to
update consumer products in general and radio memories in particular.
At the time it was designed they should have included a serial port for
downloading updates or if it was designed recently a USB connector.
