It's nice to see the younger generation taking an interest in Indian
music. My advice to you, SR: avoid the Bollywood garbage.

Since you're in the NYC area, I suggest you make a trip to Jackson
Heights, NJ, visit one or two of the Indian music stores there, and get
yourself some CDs of Indian classical music. I would recommend Shiv
Kumar Sharma, India's foremost santur maestro.

Have fun with your radios, but don't neglect your studies.
