Someone mentioned the Ten Tec 320D in another thread so I decided to start a
320D thread rather than hijack someone elses thread. I purchased a 320D a
while back with the DXTRA software www.dxtra.com and although I like Ten
Tec products, I ended up sending the radio back. I tried the Dxtra software,
the Ten Tec software and and Clifton Turner's software. While it has some
interesting features, I just could not get thrilled about it. The radio
receives really good marks in the various reviews but I ended up giving it
the boot. Has anybody else had any experience/comments about this radio? I
am thinking about buying a Grundig Satellit 800 for a desktop radio before
they disappear but have also been thinking about giving the 320D another
try.

I have the 'regular' 320. It was worth every penny. The data base
afforded by most (all?) software lets you save the settings for each
received station.

Perhaps your antenna was providing poor performance?

Yes the antenna I had was not the best but that was not really what I was
dissatisfied with. I dunno... there's just something about spinning
dial/knobs on a real radio. Spinning knobs via mouse just seemed a little
odd. Of course there are a lot more functions and versatility with a
computer aided radio. Oh yeah... talk about a nice, big, easy to read
display... There are none better.

What type of antenna are you using on your 320? Correct me if I'm wrong but
I thing the only difference between the 320 and the 320D is that the D is
DRM capable. Not a big deal in my book. Maybe I could find a deal on a used
320 on Ebay...

No. I sometimes get attacks of the 'spinning dial/knobs on a real radio'
syndrome. My latest new (to me) radio is a well maintained Kenwood
R1000. Some of the other sets include a Zenith Trans Oceanic R7000,
Sangean 909 and RS 398, Yaesu FRG 9600, FRG 7 and a Kenwood R2000.
They're all fun and get rotated into usage when the urge moves me.

I have a straight 100 foot (30 meter, approx) antenna about seventeen
feet off the ground and oriented in a north/south direction. Coaxial
lead in.

I have or have had some of the same radios that you mentioned, all of them
good radios in their own right. It sounds like you have a pretty good
antenna setup. You know the one thing I need right now is a "radio only"
desk. I saw a picture of DX Ace's desk setup sometime back and he has a
really nice setup. It wasn't fancy just clean looking and well thought out.

By the way... I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with too many radios
and still wanting more.
