Electrical "Tie Wraps" Usage Outdoors Question
 

Hello:

I expect to put up a simple receive only antenna using a fair number of
"Tie-Wraps" to hold the wire against a few standoffs and supports.

I am not sure, but I guess the HD variety, or T&Betts brand, of Tie-Wraps
are made from Nylon ?
But really not sure.

How well do these generally hold up outdoors ?

Do they become brittle and decompose (a bit) after a while and break ?

Are there better types available ?
etc. ?

They get brittle eventually. The black tie wraps seem to hold up better
outdoors.

The Outdoor ones say ''UV'' in bold letters on the package.

I use them a lot in gardening. (They're great for stopping a pinhole leak
in one of those black porous soaker hoses). The white ones, one year or
two summers at the most in not very sunny Seattle. Snap, crumble, crunch.

Black ones, especially if labeled UV resistant (or UV Black), have carbon
black or some other pigment in them and will last longer. The ones I
got two years ago at Fry's seem to be standing up better, but that's
not much of a test.

Just agreeing with other posts - black UV rated hold up well outdoors.
T&B is a very good brand.

Don't use natural nylon or neon ones. Don't cinch them down so tight
that they alter the diameter of the coax.
Does Thomas and Betts still make them? Tyton is good.

suitable for outdoor use. Light Duty and very cheap.

cents. If you are going to make a coax balun or whatever, it makes
sense to get a tie wrap that won't bust after a year in the sun.

Due to their political contributions, Home Depot is not on the approved
vendor list.
