Default Ferrite core : can I use this kind ?

Even if you get the core off the shelf, you still need ot wind the
coil.

Any home-brew coil should be frequency swept. The parasitic capacitance
can really limit the performance.

Yes sure : I can drive to some shops, but it will take me 2 or 3 hours way and
back...

I feel it is more funny to make my own, and I learn much more as well...
