Why not buy from Universal radio or any other radio store that sells
the 7600?...They ship to Canada and try to use the cheapest method possible... |

Well Yes!! If you know about them, and their prices are competitive, sure! Why not? I
also found an Ebay seller from Canada selling the radio which would allow me to avoid all the importation BS and I think I could pick it up right at his home, but I did not see that until after I had committed to buying from the first seller. As I said earlier, I simply bid in to much haste and have only myself to blame. Thanks for sharing your experience with us, even though you've had to endure
a lot of "hindsight advice". It's a lesson for all of us. John "Bob" wrote in message ... Well Yes!! If you know about them, and their prices are competitive, sure! Why not? Ha ha ha ha Well John, I can't say that I didn't know it as coming. Really ,, I told my story because I am so ****ed at myself that I can hardly see straight and putting things on paper helps get rid of the anger. I can lose a few bucks but I'll be damned if it's going to drive me to a heart attack. (O: I wish I could blame the seller but he was just another greedy little man who set up his site to snare the unsuspecting, and he caught me. All our politicians seem to be crooks and the Enron guys are crooks. Our country was run by crooks for 13 years and your country went to war with a nation based on lies. I can hardly blame one little Ebay seller for the "moral decay" of the our society! Cheers Bob John "Bob" wrote in message ... Well Yes!! Not trying to rub salt into your wounds but I would have just refused to pay
it and taken the negative... "Bob" wrote in message ... John Black wrote: Thanks for sharing your experience with us, even though you've had to endure a lot of "hindsight advice". Dear Bob,
We all live and learn. WHENEVER I buy something I always try to remember P. T. Barnum's sage comment! In future, should you wish to import SW equipment into Canada, consider buying from AES - http://www.aesham.com - a very reputable dealer whom you can telephone toll-free and who will ship into Canada by whatever means you desire, thereby minimizing your shipping costs. Universal will also ship into Canada; however, I believe they will only ship via UPS which, as you may know, causes some "problems" (and costs) with shipment into Canada. An English firm which ships to Canada at reasonable fees (and which also has low prices) is THE SHORTWAVE SHOP. Best of luck in the future and best of luck with your new Sony ICF-SW7600GR. Joe |

Joe Thanks Joe I really don't need much of anything else now. I bought a Sony CFR 320 back in about 78 in Europe and did not use it much after I returned in 82. Anyway, I got listening to it again this winter and it still works beautifully. My wife bought me a Grundig 350s to listen to in the kitchen and I just loved it's selectivity but the one I had could not keep time, so I returned it and read a few posts about the 7600GR and looked around for this one. I kind of like the look of this Eton E1XM and may opt to buy one. I think that it may be a little simpler to tool around the band with then the 7600GR. I like presets, but so far I am finding the page system of the 7600GR just a little awkward. I know that as I become more familiar with it things will get easier. Well OK better run! Take care. |

![]() Bob wrote: BTW Before anyone says anything I do realize that I could have prevented these excessive charges by simply not dealing with this seller. I bid $129 on a Sony ICF SW7600GR radio from a seller on Ebay. The seller charged me $41 shipping. (I priced return shipping via UPS, it is $16.29) The seller advertised shipping to Canada by Fed Ex. When asked to ship by US Post Office (because the brokerage fee is only $4.30) he failed to respond and shipped the item via UPS??. When the package arrived I was faced with an additional $33.62 brokerage fee from UPS for having collected $18.89 tax on the goods and $2.36 tax on the tax ( total $54.87 ) My total cost was $224.87 ($129+$41+$33.62+$18.89+$2.36) Had I chosen a different seller my cost could have been $168.48 ($129+$16.29+$18.89+$4.30) You live and learn. (or) A fool and his money are soon parted. Yeah, we learned a similar valuable lesson when buying a china platter from a UK seller. We didn't ask the cost of shipping before pressing the bid button and shipping almost doubled the price of a serving platter. It sounds like your seller expected more in the way of bids and is compensating himself to a degree. Customs brokerage fees and duties are just adding to the pain. I've heard similar stories from other Canadians, and I think the best advice is to line up the cost of shipping before pushing the bid button. You can take some consolation in being the owner of one of the nicer portables available. Enjoy it. |
