SANGEAN 808 (or DX-380) shows readout letter E

SANGEAN 808 (or DX-380) shows readout letter E

When I turn on power (batts are good) & I get a flashing letter E
displayed on right side of face

noithing in my manual mentions anything about this situation

Anybody have an answer (or) opinion ????????????
