I just got mine today. A definite improvement over the Grundig/Eton
S-350/BCL2000/3000 series of radios. PLL tuner. (NO DRIFT) 50 memories 455 khz I.F. output for DRM (Why they made it a PAL connector, I'll never know) Separate bass and treble with an RF gain that actually works throughout it's travel (unlike the S350) Not only does the display light up, so does the buttons... 4 "D" cells or 4 "AA"'s BIG TURN-OFF (It seems ALL radios have at least ONE) NO NUMERIC KEYPAD! Luckily the fast setting gets you through 10 MHz fairly quickly. There are 3 10 MHz segments... How good is it? I dunno, I just now got it. Anyone else get one? What do you think of it? |

Dear Jim,
Is this radio dual-conversion? I thought that, for proper DRM reception, the output had to be 12 kHz. Am I incorrect? What would you need to receive DRM with this receiver? Yes Joe it IS double conversion. I ALSO thought you needed 12khz output for
DRM. I also thought dual conversion virtually assured you wouldn't pick up multiple images throughout the h.f. range... "Joe Analssandrini" wrote in message oups.com... With software, you can demodulate AM/SSB/CW/FM and digital modes, have incredible variable bandwidth, shiftable IF filtering, noise reduction, improved AGC, spectrum display, etc. You need a 12 kHz or so IF to do the above via a conventional computer sound system and, consequently, a down converter between the 455kHz output and the computer. I guess that would make it a triple-conversion supehet receiver (if you don't count the A/D and D/A converters in the computer sound system!). Tom |

Turning the RF gain down helps considerably...

JA - If Frequency 455 kHz with an IF Band Width of 12 kHz
DRM needs a 12 kHz IF Band Width Signal for processing. IIRC - The IF Frequency can be anything that the DRM Processor is set to woork with. hope this helps ~ RHF |

Smokey,
Gee Golly - I do not see 10 Memory Buttons - Doh ! ~ RHF So... How Do they accomplish the Ten Memories per Band ? -and- How Do you recall the Memories once stored ? FWIW - Picture of the Redsun Export Model RP2000 http://www.redsunelect.com/UploadFiles/RP2000.jpg Reportedly this is same Radio with English Lettering. |

Dear Jim,
ARE you hearing images on this radio? How many IF bandwidths does it have? How does the tuning knob "feel?" (The one on the Grundig S350 is hopeless.) Any "backlash?" What kind of external antenna connector is on the radio? Finally, did you buy yours from Lipyn's eBay shop? If not, how much did you pay, if you don't mind my asking? Would you tell me, having owned the set for several days, your impressions of its construction quality? I presume this set has no synchronous detection circuit. Am I correct? I also presume that, with its large speaker, it has quite good audio quality on FM as well as MW. Correct? (Can you compare its FM audio quality to the GE Superadio, the S350 or Satellit 800?) Sorry for all the questions, but I do appreciate your replies. The radio looks interesting. Best, Joe Jim Hackett wrote: Yes Joe it IS double conversion.
