Creek Media To Launch Macon AAA/Americana Station

Posted: 15 Jun 2016 11:31 AM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...icana-station/

Following their purchase of three Macon GA area stations, Creek Media has
announced it will flip Classic Hits 100.9 WNEX-FM Perry to AAA The Creek
100.9 on Friday, July 8.

The new format is described by 11thHourOnline.com as an Americana music
format and aim to globally broadcast the best of the South’s roots music,
thoughtful programming and city insight from Macon, Georgia as an
independently-owned and operated radio station.

The Creek will be part of a network of businesses operated by the three
partners of the new ownership group: Star Motel Records, which is a local
record label and recording studio, bi-weekly newspaper 11th Hour, and
Moonhanger Group which operates multiple restaurants in Macon and manages
the Cox Capitol Theatre. The group plans on adding a performance space and
record store along with the radio stations.

Creek Media is purchasing WNEX-FM along with 980 WPGA Perry and 1400 WNEX
Macon from Register Communications bankruptcy receiver for $790,000.

The launch of The Creek will take place at 10:09am on July 8. WNEX-FM had
flipped to its current Classic Hits format in September 2015.

WGEX Rebrands As Power 97.3

https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...as-power-97-3/

iHeartMedia has rebranded CHR 97.3 Hit Music Now WGEX Bainbridge/Albany GA
as Power 97.3.

No lineup changes accompanied the rebranding as the station retains the
syndicated Elvis Duran for mornings, local host Jazzmine Phoenix in
middays, and Premium Choice hosts Billy The Kidd, Romeo, Jo Jo Wright and
Sisanie rounding out the daily schedule.

INSTANT INSIGHT: Last month following the registration of the Power973.com,
we had multiple sources tell us the domain was for WRNW Milwaukee.
Obviously we were either played or plans changed.

X105.1 Debuts In Kansas City; Jack Moves To 102.5

Posted: 15 Jun 2016 05:56 AM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...oves-to-102-5/

As we first reported last week, Cumulus moved Alternative 102.5 The
Underground K273BZ/KCMO-HD2 Kansas City to the full powered 105.1 KCJK as
X105.1 at 7:30 this morning.

That move will send Variety Hits 105.1 Jack-FM in reverse to 102.5. KCJK
had been tied for 13th in the Kansas City market with a 3.6 share, while
the Alternative format, which launched last November held a 0.8 share.

X105.1 is debuting with the typical 10,000 songs in a row commercial free
and gives a full-powered competitor to Entercoms 96.5 The Buzz KRBZ. KRBZ
currently ranks sixth in the Kansas City market with a 4.6 share. This also
returns the X branding to the market where it was previously used on 107.3
from 1997 through 1999 under the KCCX and KNRX call letters.

Cumulus Media announces that it will move its JACK FM (KCJK-FM) radio
station from 105.1 on the FM dial to its new position at 102.5 today at
7:30 AM. A popular station in Kansas City for 12 years, JACK FM will
continue “Playing What We Want” in its Adult Hits format as 102.5 JACK FM.
As JACK FM moves to its new home at 102.5, Cumulus will simultaneously
launch its Alternative station, formerly at 102.5, on the new broadcast
home at 105.1—with a new name, X 105.1, Kansas City’s Alternative. The
Alternative station originally debuted on 102.5 in November, 2015, as 102.5
The Underground.

Donna Baker, Regional Vice President/Market Manager for Cumulus
Media-Kansas City, said: “Cumulus Media-Kansas City’s seven-station cluster
has experienced explosive growth, up 19.7% since last year in total
audience (6+ M-Su 6a-12a). All other Kansas City radio groups’ audience
shares have declined over the same period. 1.2 million people tune in to a
Cumulus Media-Kansas City station every week, making ours the largest radio
audience in Kansas City. Against this backdrop, and working with focus,
optimism, responsibility, collaboration and empowerment, our team
discovered an even greater opportunity for our group of seven tremendous
radio stations and the Chiefs Radio Network to serve Kansas City listeners.”

Lance Tidwell, Operations Manager for Cumulus Media-Kansas City, said:
“With JACK FM broadcasting from its new home at 102.5 and the simultaneous
launch of X 105.1, Kansas City’s Alternative, we are positioned to continue
our stations’ incredible growth trajectory. We will kick off the summer
with continuous music, concert tickets and cash to celebrate the new home
of Kansas Citys Alternative at 105.1. We couldn’t be more excited and our
listeners will love what they hear!”

Westwood One To Offer Online Fantasy Sports

Posted: 14 Jun 2016 03:58 PM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...antasy-sports/

Westwood One is partnering with Loyal Ears Digital to offer free fantasy
sports and entertainment games to radio station websites starting with the
2016 NFL season.

Westwood One Fantasy Free will offer games that will allow stations to
brand them with their or clients logos and interact with the staff.

NEW YORK, June 14, 2016 — Westwood One announces it has signed a multi-year
partnership with Loyal Ears Digital to bring Fantasy Free FREE fantasy
sports and entertainment games to its broadcast radio affiliates, starting
with the upcoming 2016 NFL season.

The average fantasy player spends 9.5 hours a week constructing fantasy
lineups. Westwood One’s Fantasy Free package allows stations to tap into
that heavily-engaged audience with FREE games that are 100% legal and that
bring all the excitement that comes with fantasy gaming. The games are
integrated into a station’s website, with station and client branding
opportunities.

The Fantasy Free package allows stations to increase their digital
footprint, bring in local advertisers, and find new ways for local talent
to interact with listeners and give away prizes all at no cost to the
audience. There will be local and national winners every week.

Dennis Green, SVP Affiliate Sales for Westwood One, said “We are proud to
offer our affiliates a terrific way to leverage the fantasy sports world,
which shows no signs of slowing. Stations and their listeners will get a
chance to play fantasy sports through their favorite stations from
coast-to-coast, absolutely free, while competing for unique prizes. Let the
games begin!”

Gabe Hobbs Media partnered with Loyal Ears Digital on the Westwood One
integration. Hobbs said, “What station wouldn’t want a contest that drives
digital engagement through the roof, and is driven by on-air promotion with
no special programming required?! Advertisers and clients can create
incredible online impressions, all driven by traditional radio. Everyone
wins except the station that DOESN’T have it across the street.”

Loyal Ears Digital CEO Jimmy Risk added, “Westwood One has a wide scope of
exceptional programming that harnesses a huge fan base. It’s the perfect
landscape for radio stations to target the fantasy phenomenon that has
captivated America.”

Local stations can brand their own games starting with the NFL 2016 season.
