I don't know how to break the bad news to you all but about sixty years ago a new revolution came to town called TELEVISION and people haven't been paying allot of attention to the radio as they used to. It's good for what it has to offer, but it's not going to revolutionalize the industry or change our listening habits. It's just going to make our experiences now better. Hey shillers, pfffttttt 2u. |

It's funny you should mention that... Before the TV freeze was lifted, radio listening per capita was about 21 hours a week. By 1970, when virtually every home had at least one TV set, radio listening was.... 21 hours a week. Today, after all the innovations starting with the 8-Trak, the cassettes, CATV, CDs, the Internet, video games, computers, iPods and satellite to name a few... average listening per person is 19 hours. |

Related topic: There was supposed to be a Tivoli "Model HD" arriving "late fall 2006": http://www.gadgetell.com/2006/07/hd-...for-under-200/ There were some press releases on it at the Tivoli web site, but now all I can find is a photograph of the prototype: http://www.tivoliaudio.com/files/mas...a/model_hd.jpg No other word in any forum I could find, this after slipping the estimated ship date by almost 2 quarters now. Not that I would have bought one for Christmas. My Model One is working just fine (with external antennas) for me. No price was ever announced, but I figure that the estimated MSRP was creeping over $300, which was probably one motivation to shelve it indefinitely. If I had a spare $300+ to spend on new audio equipment, I would probably get a Roku Soundbridge R1000 instead: http://www.amazon.com/Roku-SoundBrid...3239721&sr=8-6 as there would probably be a much wider selection of programming. - -- Paul W. Schleck http://www.novia.net/~pschleck/ Finger for PGP Public Key Found this on the Tivoli Audio website. Go to the FAQ on the B-Goods Outlet page, under "General": 7. Why hasn’t Tivoli Audio manufactured an HD radio? There are several obstacles that must be overcome before we can bring a Tivoli Audio HD radio to market. The first is cost. Until this technology becomes less expensive, it is not possible to manufacture an HD radio that is economical for our customers. Secondly, but just as important, is sound quality. The HD broadcast fidelity varies greatly from station to station and often leaves much to be desired, despite what you may read in the press. Once manufacturing costs come down and the sound quality is what you have become accustomed to hearing from a Tivoli Audio radio, we will manufacture a Tivoli HD radio. Until then, you can continue to enjoy high fidelity sound from any one of our fine analog radios. Our radios will not be obsolete anytime soon. |

Then he could profess a belief that HD sounds better than analog. Again HD can not sound better using the same bandwidth. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

... Again HD can not sound better using the same bandwidth. Of course it can, and does. Stop thinking in analog terms. All a digital signal needs is 1s and 0s. How much bandwidth do you think that needs? To put it in terms that you might understand, think of it like Morse Code. Code needs less bandwidth - and less power - but the message gets thru just fine. Why do you suppose that is? Mike |
