Unsure whether this is Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, or Katherine, but
per ABC website it sounds like it's probably Tennant Creek.

Apparently propagation is pretty good tonight, as the signal is
stable, with minimal fading.

Antenna is 102 foot G5RV into ICOM-746PRO.

I have found that Oz tends to fade in not until a few hours later,
around 1100-1200 UTC. That's when there's enough darkness to
sufficiently propagate the signal. By 1400 they're usually booming
in.

Where are you located, approximately? I wonder if there was some
unusual propagation path then. The signal was surprisingly free of
deep fades. I went to sleep well before 1100. I will try towards
then later. Though the signal was readable enough to hear the "ABC"
announcements and the unmistakable female and male Australian
accents

at that particular time will either be Darwin or Alice Springs, depending on
which of the two programs that the shortwave transmitter takes. My guess is
Alice Springs.

Last night, signal was much weaker. So I guess propagation varies a
lot.

I wonder if they use NVIS (near-vertical incidence signal) techniques
like NBC Port Morseby PNG does on 4890 Khz. Outback Australia seems
like it was made for NVIS shortwave.

I guess the tsunami permanently knocked it off the air?
