Default Cellular through glass mounting

I just installed an Antenna Specialists 'through glass' or 'on glass'
antenna on my van for my Verizon cellular service. I now realized that when
I removed the white sticky paper on the perimeter of the coupling, I also
removed the white paper covering the 'center square'. I see no mention in
the instruction to remove or not to remove this covering. Did I foul up the
installation ?
