I can tell you HAVE been doing your research! grin

THIS:

* (pl., antennae). Pair of segmented appendages (feelers) located on
head and sensory in function (Fig. 1).

* One of a pair of sensory appendages on each side of an insect's head.
http://www.frankstehno.com/sagemesa/...rms/aterms.htm

* (plural antennae) The sensory organs on the head. Stag beetles have
two antennae or 'feelers' with a characteristic shape at the end, which
is the same for all the beetles that belong to the Lucanidae family. It
is with their antennae that stag beetles pick up important pheromone
signals.

* Antennae (singular antenna) are paired appendages connected to the
front-most segments of arthropods. In crustaceans, they are biramous and
present on the first two segments of the head, with the smaller pair
known as antennules. ...

* A feeler organ on the head of an insect, crab, or other animal; A
device to receive or transmit radio-frequency signal by converting
electromagnetic radiation into electrical signal; The faculty of
intuitive astuteness

I concede the point of grammar ok?
The original point was not whether the correct plural form of antenna is antennas.
One antenna and two antennas ok?
This forum is about antennas not songs that was my point.
Why can稚 we stay on topic?
I知 a new Ham and want to learn more about Antennas.
I have been an Amateur for 4 months and went from Tech to Extra in 2 ス months aced all 3 tests.
My interest is becoming the best Amateur Radio Operator I can be.
Along this line I知 looking for help, at age 64 it is just as important to me as it is to a 10 year old Amateur.

Well then, inundate us with your exuberance, recently aquired knowledge
(on topic of course, and all of your questions just screaming for
answers (on topic of course)--your "speculations" of antenna(s) (or
possibly, in your case, antennae) could also, possibly, be appreciated
(on topic of course!)

For the rest of us bored "news-groupers", well ... I know you find it in
your heart to forgive me/us/them. ;-)

As far as grammar goes--I am not big on it; if I can "get your 'Jest' "
(yes, a bit of pun), I'll be satisfied ...

JS

Dear Howard KJ4DIY:

Your goal is commendable. An excellent start is to read the ARRL's Antenna
Book. It will teach and inform about most of the breadth of antennas and
their issues. Depth of understanding may be found in Kraus' Antennas (3rd
Edition), which is an excellent textbook with examples. However, it is a
college level text. Success in your quest. 73, Mac N8TT

Welcome.

I've been licensed for 15 years and passed Extra last year. Never aced
anything. My scores belong in the Witness Protection Program.

ARRL Operating Manual is good source for beginners. www.arrl.org/catalog
and http://www.arrl.org/catalog/index.ph...gory=Operating

Also, http://www.arrl.org/catalog/?item=1018#top for the ARRL Handbook.
(Can't tell why it's listed separately.) Not everybody likes the ARRL. I
do.

Much useful info shows up in the newsgroups. Just keep your mental filters
switched on.

That is the age old question with the newsgroups, Howard.

I知 a new Ham and want to learn more about Antennas.

It is possible that you are fairly new to Netnews. While a place to
learn and teach and have fun, it is also largely unregulated. So we get
a fairly high noise to signal ratio.

In addition to the off topic forays, many of our more accomplished
members have favorite topics that can go on for quite a while, long past
any real reason, just tit for tat comments.

The best strategy is to just accept that there will be off topic and
run-on threads in the newsgroup, and either filter or otherwise ignore them.

That in no way means that you can't tweak someone once in a while! hehe

A general rule of thumb is to post a question, and the first few
answers will be the relevant ones. After that all bets are off.

Regarding the age thing, It is an excellent hobby/avocation for a
retiree or young ham. I got into the ARS later than some, at 46 years
old, but it's all good.

You might want to try out rec.radio.amateur. moderated also.

Yeah!

Or, to put it another way, if you are thin skinned, an idiot, or just
shallow, give the moderated chan a try and attempt to join with the
"good ole' boys."

Personally, I consider them to be a group of idiots with NO EQUAL--your
mileage may vary--good luck ... ;-0

Be forewarned, they worship at "The Cross Of The arrl!" ... grin
