Default silly rx ant question

hi

I have a few ham rigs that have a seperate rx antenna, if i
activate this function it simply choices this for rx when unkeyed.

my Yaesu mark v Field have 2 jacks for rx antenna marked in/out

so i am confused dson't seem to say anything in the manual about how
that actualy works

i suppose the IN would connect to my receive antenna but what would
the out connect to

A transmit/receive relay switch? I don't know either. Just a guess.

Hi Myles,

My Drake TR7 has the same thing (a separate antenna jack). It also
has a switch. The switch goes to the T/R relay. In one position of
the switch, receive follows the transmit path and shares that antenna;
in the other position of the switch it goes to this second antenna
jack so the receive has a separate antenna and does not share with
transmit.

When all else fails, RTMFM (read the meticulously formatted manual).

seems i didn't explain the set up right

in the menus there is a switch to use the rx jacks

on the ts2000 it's 1 rx jack on or off

i understand this

on my markv Field there is also a rx on/off setting

but 2 jacks(not a switch) one is rx antenna INPUT one rx
antenna OUTPUT

i can guess what the input is for i plug my rx antenna there but
what is the outputfor?

i see a few righs now have that set up just can't think what
that is for

and it's not in the manual

these are rx only jacks, naturally the rigs have regular main
tx/rx pl259 jack

thanks

Sometimes when a station uses say a beverage antenna for separate
receive, there will be multiple rigs using the same antenna. Take the
antenna to the input, and the output goes to the next rig.

I would go to the page of the manual that shows the rear view of the radio,
with the various jacks numbered. It should state what each is for, and on
what page you can find more information. Are these RCA jacks? My guess about
the Rx out is that it might be for connecting to an external preamp.

A little weird but here goes:

Input to the A/B antenna inputs are TR switched to the RX via relay RL 1002.

If external RX antenna is selected in menu, the TR switched RX line from A/B
antennas go to "RX out" rather than to the internal receivers while the "RX
in" is switched to the internal receivers.

If normal RX is selected in menu, the RX in and out go nowhere.

The Mk5 Field radio is a mass of menus, and some of them will make the
radio appear not to work. Technically it is a great radio, but I don't
like it very much. Our club has one, and that means that those of us
who don't have one have to re-learn it every time we use it. So if the
manual is lost, so am I. Love that one punch notch filter though.
