Which dictionary? So if you consult an American dictionary you would start calling fringes "bangs"? YUCK and BIG SPIT. They are not "movies", but "films". 'Films' is increasingly becoming an anachronism in these days of virtually ubiquitous CGI. I remember a friend of a friend who nearly tossed out her boyfriend because he kept calling CD "albums". Albums weren't even correct for records for many decades. Usage comes from a time when records were 78 RPM, and had only one or two songs per side. To get any decent amount of recording time they were sold in albums. If you wanted to hear the entire opera you bought an album. With the advent of 33 1/3 RPM long play discs, the need for albums went away but the name remained. -- Rick C |
