Posted: 02 Jun 2016 02:53 PM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...aunch-podcast/

Tony Kornheiser is exiting Red Zebra Sports ESPN 980 WTEM Washington and
simulcasters 92.7 WWXT Prince Frederick MD and 94.3 WWXX Buckland VA at the
end of this month.

Kornheiser has been part of the lineup at WTEM on and off since its launch
on 570 in 1992 including during his six year run while syndicated
nationally by ESPN Radio. While part of the Monday Night Football booth,
his show moved to the short-lived Washington Post Radio 1500 WTWP and 3WT
WWWT and XM Satellite Radio in 2007 and 2008. He returned to WTEM for 10am
to 12pm in 2010.

After his usual summer hiatus from the radio show, Kornheiser will launch a
new podcast in September. He will also continue as the co-host of ESPNs
Pardon The Interruption.

Red Zebra Broadcasting announced today that Washington, D.C. sports radio
icon Tony Kornheiser is leaving ESPN 980. Beginning in 1992 as part of
WTEM’s original lineup, The Tony Kornheiser Show has entertained the
nation’s capital for more than 20 years.

“Tony is a pillar in the Washington, D.C. sports community and we would
like to express our sincerest gratitude and thank him for his dedication,”
said Terry Bateman, Chairman of Red Zebra Broadcasting.

Kornheiser’s final show on ESPN 980 will air in late June. Red Zebra will
announce plans for a new midday show shortly.

“I have loved every minute on the radio at WTEM,” Kornheiser said. “But I
felt it was time to pursue a new and appealing challenge. I will be
launching a podcast this September. I am excited that this endeavor will
allow me to continue to work with so many of the people who have been a
part of my radio show for over the past 20 years. But I will miss all of my
friends and colleagues at WTEM.”

Boosted by 17 hours of live and local programming, ESPN 980 unveiled its
new power-packed lineup on May 2.

ESPN 980 listeners now wake up with The Morning Blitz, hosted by Al Galdi
(@AlGaldi), followed by Cooley and Kevin at 7 a.m. with former Redskins
tight end Chris Cooley and Kevin Sheehan. At 1 p.m., listeners go Inside
the Locker Room, featuring former Washington Redskins legends Brian
Mitchell (@BMitchLiveCSN) and Rick “Doc” Walker (@RickDocWalker) as well as
co-host Scott Jackson (@JacksonSports).

Steve Czaban (@Czabe) and Andy Pollin (@AndyPollin1) and the rebirth of The
Sports Reporters hit the airways during drive before Tim Murray
(@1TimMurray) and Nick Ashooh (@NickAshooh) cover all of the evening action
on DMV Game Time at 7 p.m.

“Following our new broadcast lineup this month, ESPN 980 continues to
deliver the most exclusive Washington Redskins breaking news, insider
reports, player interviews and game broadcasts,” Bateman said.

ESPN 980, the flagship station of the Washington Redskins Radio Network,
will continue to provide live game broadcasts during the 2016 preseason and
regular season. The network makes its 2016 debut when the Redskins travel
to Atlanta to open the preseason against the Falcons on Thursday, Aug. 11,
at 7 p.m.

Listeners can also enjoy ESPN 980 on 92.7 FM and 94.3 FM in the Washington,
D.C. area and globally on the ESPN 980 and official Washington Redskins
apps.

WMOG Relaunches As 92.7 SSI

Posted: 02 Jun 2016 02:15 PM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/blog/headli...s-as-92-7-ssi/

Golden Isles Broadcasting has closed on its acquisition of Classic Hits Big
92.7 WMOG St. Simons Island GA from iHeartMedias Brunswick Station Trust
and relaunched it as 92.7 SSI WSSI at 5:10pm today.

The revamped Classic Hits format will focus on hits of the 70s and 80s and
is debuting with the usual 10,000 songs in a row starting with Princes 1999
and Loverboy Working For The Weekend.

The flip comes after a stunt loop with sweepers stating to ask your friends
about whats going on at 92.7 and indirectly mocking iHeart for the station
being neglected and almost thrown in a closet pinpointing its lack of local
programming. WSSI joins a Golden Isles Broadcasting cluster that also
includes Country 104.1 The Wave WRJY Brunswick and CHR Magic 105.9 WXMK
Dock Junction in the coastal area between Savannah and Jacksonville FL.
