NOTICE OF AVAILABLE POSITION
DIVISION OF BROADCASTING
BROADCAST RESEARCH/OPERATIONS SPECIALIST
(Traffic Manager)
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

THE POSITION: Full-time academic professional position; 12-month appointment.
The Traffic Manager is a member of the WILL-TV Programming Department, and
reports to the Program Director.

THE EMPLOYER: The Division of Broadcasting of the University of Illinois
operates public television and radio stations serving much of Illinois and half
of Indiana. WILL-TV/Channel 12 has been on the air since 1955, and is the
primary public TV station serving the Champaign-Springfield-Decatur, Illinois
television market. WILL-AM, on the air since 1922, is an all-news and
information service. WILL-FM, which began in 1941, offers classical music and
jazz. The Division of Broadcasting has approximately 150 people on staff, and is
committed to a policy of encouraging the growth and development of its
employees. Results are important, and the working environment is friendly,
collegial and mutually supportive.

THE LOCATION: The University of Illinois is located in Urbana-Champaign, 135
miles south of Chicago, 130 miles northeast of St. Louis, and 90 miles west of
Indianapolis. The University setting (34,000 students) provides a rich cultural
environment, many sports and entertainment events, and a variety of recreational
facilities. The quality of life is excellent with fine local schools, libraries
and shopping areas.

DUTIES: The Traffic Manager performs duties related to traffic, scheduling,
operations and shipping in the WILL-TV Programming Department. The employee
prepares broadcast logs which direct the activities of other operational
personnel, and which meet Federal Communications Commission, University of
Illinois and WILL-TV policies and regulations. The Traffic Manager maintains a
library of information concerning television programs and station break
materials, and researches their content, timing and mode of delivery; implements
WILL marketing and development strategies through appropriate scheduling of
promotional announcements; maintains quality of playback materials by viewing
air product and responding to discrepancy reports; acts as local administrator
of WILL-TV's program scheduling software and related server; aids in the
facilitation of WILL-TV's digital broadcast plans and seeks out information
regarding related issues; communicates with program distributors about the
shipping of videotaped programming; ships and receives packages; keeps a record
of the department's shipping activities; responds appropriately to emergencies
affecting the WILL-TV broadcast schedule; prepares reports as required; performs
related duties as required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Baccalaureate degree is required. Candidate must have
computer operations skills, experience or special aptitude in dealing with
detailed information in an exacting and reliable way, and the ability to work
well with others under tight time constraints. Two years' broadcasting
experience with demonstrated familiarity in programming-related areas is
preferred. Familiarity with ProTrack television scheduling software preferred,
but not necessary.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: $30,000 (negotiable) with future merit increases on an
annual basis. In addition, there are 24 days of paid vacation annually, paid
health insurance, paid life insurance, ample sick leave, disability leave, a
pension system and numerous other benefits.
