Which version of Stagger Lee? If my memory is correct, Stagger Lee by Lloyd Price in January 1959 was the Number One Single in Billboard Magazine and there were two versions (KFWB in L.A. played the one with the word GAMBLING in it; on American Bandstand, Dick Clark played a version without the word GAMBLING in it for the National Audience.) Can anyone verify that there were two versions of Stagger Lee by Lloyd Price? Could well have been a local cut job. I know very well that when Brown-Eyed Girl came out, our station PD spent an hour or so carefully removing "Making love in the green grass behind the stadium" and replacing it with another line, with razor blade on 1/4". This is the version we aired. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |
