Actually, it is 25 kw with a top-loaded 1/8 wave vertical. There is no "nice" antenna anymore. Do you know when this changed? -- Telamon Ventura, California |

And American Idol is the number one TV show.

There news sucks; all Michale Jackson and Robert Blake. Their Drive Time is wall to wall commercials, except for the ranting about the Mexicans. It's awful. And it is tied for #1 in LA in the latest Arbitrends. |

wrote in message ... David, I disagree I worked at KMPC for 22 years we had the best news dept in Los Angeles now it's KFI. The hard news on the hour and half hour also breaking news coverage IMHO is the best. From your comments you don't like KFI, use the "on" and "off" button. I have nothing to do with KFI, as a former air talent, Vice President of Gene Autry's GWB,owner of KMPC, KSFO, KVI, KEX, and owner of radio stations my views are not personal. KFI is far from being stale and old fashion sounding. 1260, you have to be kidding. Are you in broadcasting?? David, I repeat nothing personal, just disagree. Also, don't know her. Terri Raye Elmer KFI, one of the best newscasters in LA. roger carroll, retired living the good life on Alamits Bay David, What Roger may not want to say, I will: GWB, while Roger was there, was one of the absolute finest radio companies in America if not the entire world. Service, responsibility, strong, live personalities, localism, high technical standards, decent treatment of the staff and general responsible business practices while making a profit. Those of us still in radio would be honored to be considered to be in the same league as Roger. Because of this, if roger says it, it is likely 99.9% correct. And that goes for his latest post. |

Thank You, you are very kind. It's hard to believe how radio has
changed, we had 135 employes at KMPC everyone was a pro....That's the way Gene Autry operated. rc David Eduardo wrote: wrote in message ... Well I found this on Radio Magazine http://beradio.com/searchresults/?terms=KFI&ord=d KFI Tower Felled by Plane Crash La Mirada, CA - Dec 19, 2004 - The Associated Press reports that a private plane crashed into the tower of KFI-AM at 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 19. The single-engine Cessna 182 brought the 760' tower down. The two people on the plane were killed. Their identities have not yet been released. The plane was en route to Fullerton Airport from El Monte when it crashed. Fullerton airport is about one mile from the tower site. The FAA reports that the pilot did not issue any distress reports. KFI's tower has resisted earthquakes and a brush with a private plane once before. The tower survived the previous air incident. The tower's guy wires were replaced in March 2004 after 47 years of use. KFI reports that the station was off the air for about an hour before switching to an auxiliary tower at the same site at about 5kW. The station is licensed for 50kW into the main antenna. I have heard them claim 50kW in the past and I thought 640 was one of the old "clear channels." It still is a clear channel. However, they have not been able to rebuiled the fallen tower and are still using the aux, but with hihger power than the first few hours. Did they reduce power after putting up a new antenna? The 1/8 wave antenna was the auxiliary tower, used when the 1/2 wave one was being maintained. There has been no replacement or new tower built. |

The incident was widely reported at the time. Mark Howell |

It's wall to wall misdirection. Michael Jackson and Robert Blake are not news. I am not a fan of explosions and heavy metal stingers. It's all sizzle and no steak. If anybody wants to read about KFI, there's a big cover story article about inside the talk radio biz in the new (April 2005) issue of Atlantic Monthly, featuring the nightime guy there. Trivia, KFI originally stood for "Farm Information". Mark Zenier Washington State resident |
