Yeah the skip conditions do fad in then out, again the guys are calling
it Pop Corn Skip.

The Tower install sounds great, sorry to hear about the tree's. I have a
good friend in upper State NY, and I trimmed a lot of the tree's and
branches so the tree's wouldn't be blown into the house. And had
professionals come out and toke one big old tree down as it was surly
going to damage the house. And no one bitched about having a few years
worth of fire wood.

The 60 Ft tower probably can be made to be even taller installing a
strong Galvanized 1 1/2inch Pipe, say 15 to 12 feet in the center, as
the I-10K Antenna is a light weight antenna for most towers.

Height in a antenna is like Cubic Inches and Prim Head work to a Engine,
want to burn tires, set ya back in the seat, and get tickets.
Well...

Some towers were made for very light weight TV Antennas, that are made
from very thin aluminum, rolled into a element, and originally made to
be installed inside a Attic, NOT out in the elements of Nature. Anyway
these light weight TV Antennas were put up on lightweight Towers not
designed or made for the larger and heavier antennas. Like 5 Element
Yagi Beams with 24 to 30 foot Boom length.

A older gentlemen in down town Mojave (the Metropolis of) installed a
light weight tower, a TV Antenna type light weight one. I modified a
MaCo 4 element into a Crusader 10K, a five element beam antenna, with a
24 foot long boom. (Never again) The light weight tower could not take
the 5 Element Monster Beam Antenna, the poor guy was majority
disappointed. The twisted in the light winds of the Mojave4 Desert, and
surly would the tower would break and come down in the much stronger
winds. As he wanted to no dought drop the hammer on the skip.

Steve removed the old tower and installed a class 1 new and much heavier
duty tower, that could be cranked up and down, and a tilt over mount.
The larger Crusader 10K Beam went up, and a slight adjustment was made
to the beam, now its up and humming.

So watch what you have in the tower size.

Bad news:
I'm looking at cutting down four big trees with my new tower project, it
would go up/work as is.. but the trees will grow into my way by the time
I'm 60, so they must go.

I really hate to cut trees down. This project has become more than I
bargained for at the start but I'm determined to get it done. I just
recently completed the sand-blast and prime job (last week) and now I'm
ready to put some 3-part enamel gray and new winch and cable on the crank
down.

I like the crank down part because I can stand on my barn roof and change
a big antenna without climbing.

What a convenience.

If you recall I got it for $500..but had to go get it. (60' crank-up) and
upgrade it.

Hello Jay

I'll call it the variable tower of power, goes from twenty two feet to
sixty feet in about.. err I haven't timed it yet but I'm sure it's minutes
with that hand gear. I may have to price an electric hoist motor after I
get it all set, we'll see.

It has the hinge base too so I can use it that way with a pulley off the
top of my barn if needed.
