Try it with 3, 4 or 5 watt maximum,,,,,then try AM,,,then try FM,,,all
with single digit wattage capacity. When you make that contact across
the deep blue sea, experiment and see just how low you can go with the
wattage and try different modes, antennas, radios, etc.

Working the pond with three watts on a skip

band isn't much of a challenge at all, Dave.

Lemme learn ya',,,my name is Dave as much as you aren't N7VCF. Careful,
now.

Careful yourself. I'm not N7VCF. I have proven it many, many times. Many people
in this newsgroup know this to be true. In fact, a couple years ago I bought a
scrapper Heathkit from Jerry O. -- why don't you ask him where he shipped it? I
suppose if you are nice about it (ha!) he would give you my full address, which
is in Spokane. I'm not N7VCF. Get over it.

And "working the pond" would refer to just what? Across the ocean?

Duh.

Shoot, opposed to JerryO doing it on a 100 watts,,,yes, it most
certainly is much more of a challenge doing "the pond" in such a manner.

What does that mean, "...opposed to JerryO doing it on a 100 watts..."? Do I
need to 'learn' you, a "professional journalist", in proper grammer again?

Last week I managed to squeeze 74 mW ERP
out of my experimental antenna on 162.5 kHz

Congrats. It wasn't done on the fave of all HF bands, so it doesn't
interest myself in the manner it whets your enthusiasm.

No, I don't suppose you take much interest in anything that may challenge you
physically, emotionally or mentally (as exemplified by your ignorance of both
grammer and radio fundamentals).

(and in case I didn't 'learn' you well enough the
first time, that's KILO-Hertz, not MEGA-Hertz)

See above.

and someone picked up my beacon in SLC.

Now THAT'S a challenge!

How low can you go? There are very interesting things taking place
experimental-wise way down where only the freaks frequent.

Us "freaks" are accomplishing things that you couldn't comprehend. And at least
a couple of us "freaks" is playing on freqs around 0.01 Hz, although there is
increasing interest in VLF from 3 to 9 kHz.

Have you ever talked to an Emperor of a foreign country?

I'll bet they talk to a lot of people. Not much point in talking to them,
though, since most of them don't even listen to their own constituants.

An American
head of state in Sri Lanka?

.....hmmmm, when was the last time a US President visited Sri Lanka....

Both confirmed with cards and one of the
contacts was done on the freeband...real nice official card
received..

If you want I'll send you a QSL card that confirms you contacted Santa Claus on
the freeband. BFD.

..American celeb hammies and the like don't impress
me,,

Nor me.

,,perhaps if they were using a handheld near Victoria Falls I'd be
more inclined. Low power long distance is where it's at,,,except on the
bowl and tracks, of course.

Yet 1000 miles on 74 mW doesn't even ruffle your feathers. Right. Sure. Whatever
you say, Dave.
