No that antenna will work just fine, all it needs a two element matching
circuit.

The shorter antennas have matching circuits. Antennas from 2 feet to 22
feet have been matched no sweat. A 9 foot 1/4 wavelength antenna is used
for its close impedance to 50 ohms not because of its length is magic.

We use to buy the old Surplus Army Tank Antennas for the channel X wars
in the San Fernando Valley. We won of course. They were about 13 or 17
feet long. We just made a quick matching circuit from the ARRL Handbook.
And it looked great! All tho some of the normal people didn't like its
looks, but that made it better.

That's an antenna for the VRC-12 family of radios. Remote-control
switched tuning from 30 to 75 MHz. It won't tune down to 27 MHz, but
it could be modified to do so with a few component changes.




Probably not very efficient? Might make a better 6 meter antenna? Just
speculating.
