Default okay, here's the scoop... I guess I may need that dipole after all :-D

(In short, I need a dipole.....)

I tend to run before I walk, or put rather simply, tend to make bad
purchases sometimes. Anyway, it looks highly probable that I won't
even get to erect my Imax 2000 due to bylaws that I failed to look up
regarding antennas at my town home. In a nutshell, I'm asking for
permission, but expect a big fat, "NO!"

So, I need a dipole...and just realized that I could put one in my
garage. It should all work out very nicely in there. As a matter of
fact, I will be running the coax from the garage to my living room
shack, but only while the wife is away.

Can you lead me to the best dipole money can buy? Due to the morse
code going away, I think it best to get an antenna tuner for 10 meter
when I get the privileges (and only then), but will focus right now on
a CB dipole, for skip.

I see that Workman makes one.

And this guy makes one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...keTra ck=true

In addition, there is the double bazooka, which I've heard some
negative things about.

Is there anything else? I just want to buy a well-constructed one and
get it over with.

Thanks once again for your infinite wisdom, usenet!

Any dipole is the best one money can buy. Any will work whether it's a homemade
or store bought. You will still have to erect it and trim it, regardless.

No antennas or no towers? Can you bolt the Imax to the peak of your house
and be OK? Can you tell them it's a TV antenna? Do they provide you with
free cable television? If you are a ham can you erect an antenna? Can you
tell them it's a homeland security thing and you are doing your part

If you have trees a homebrew dipole works wonders, the higher the better.
You stated before it could be difficult for you due to injuries? You will
need to pick the feedling out from the dipole so enlisting the help of a
friend may be a good thing.

The Imax is not ugly, it would not look bad on the side of the house, it's
white and pretty thin, If done tastefully no one should complain. I have
mine on a push up behind and away from the house secured to an outbuilding,
it is not readily noticeable, although, my property does have mature trees.
Some even put imaxes IN trees.

It's pretty ****ty that you can't put up a simple antenna, I wonder if they
knew that it was not a big honkin beam if it would make a difference. A
beam would not fly with my wife, she has no problem with the Imax!

I'm learning now that it is pretty common practice for people living
in association areas (town homes and condos), that installing anything
other than a small dish, is usually unacceptable.

I lived in an association for 5 years, and you are right. It would not go with
the area, and people would not allow it. The dipole in the peak of the attic
would work well. Or, it you have a mature tree, you can hang a dipole vertcally
and almost go unoticed, with the exception of the feedline being present. That
would require some trenching or digging.

It seems unfair i agree but it is down in the rules of lease that you signed
when you took over the building (not you personally, any housing association
member) We have one in Bournville, Birmingham and the rules are so strict
its crazy. You cant even have a small dish unless its in the kitchen. But
they signed the paperwork so they should have known what they were entitled
to do before moving in. No good complaining afterwards. Move to a house in
the country, get a stonking huge tower and massive element beam and push
that kilowatt.... )

How the hell do you watch TV if you don't want to pay for cable or have some
sort of problem with the cable provider?

That's bull****! I'm not on anyone's case here, just a rant. But for
christ's sake, a 20 some-odd foot chunk of white fiberglass, less than an
inch thick ain't going to ruin the resale value of the neighbor's home.

I will never, I repeat NEVER move into an area where my house has to look so
much like the neighbors house that I can't even add a damn Imax without a
pole. I see safety issues with unsupported towers, but an antenna bolted to
wood, a satellite dish? Come on, where the hell is this, stepford?

Un-F-ing real, America my ass, can't even put an antenna on something you
OWN, that's.... bull****. Where is this country going?

I was so hypnotized by the possibility of owning my own home, that I
never looked far enough into the future, that I would need my hobbies,
especially since I don't work.

Then i wish you luck with your dreams )
Just to make you chuckle i used to know a woman whos handle escapes me for
the moment but she had an open fireplace in her council house and she was
scared of putting up an outside aerial so what she did was assemble a 5/8
wave blue lazer 21 ft aerial up the chimney so there was about 2ft sticking
out the top. Not really noticeable unless you were looking at the chimney
but boy did she get out.... 50w linear was all she used and we could hear
her from 20 miles away pretty clear.. and yes... for those about to ask...
she picked up pretty good too...
