Why is there so much hostility towards IRLP? snippety I'm not hostile to it. Quite the contrary, I see it as a valuable tool for linking repeaters where regular RF-type links are not practical. I realize that it's not real DX, but isn't amateur radio and the Internet partly about connecting people? Why is there so much hostility towards exploring radio-related technology like IRLP (which is also a part of ham radio)? It's a part of it, but it's not really 'radio-related' because it depends on the Internet (read: wirelines) for connectivity. The closest it comes to being radio-related is that some Internet links go over microwave or satellite relays, and it's still the same TCP/IP protocols. I guess I just see it all as exploring technology and the Amateur Radio portion creates unique opportunities to expand that exploration. Indeed it does. Good to see that someone's not deathly afraid that it'll corrupt the hobby. -- Dr. Anton Squeegee, Director, Dutch Surrealist Plumbing Institute (Known to some as Bruce Lane, KC7GR) kyrrin a/t bluefeathertech d-o=t c&o&m Motorola Radio Programming & Service Available - http://www.bluefeathertech.com/rf.html "Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati" (Red Green) |
