Yeah, sorry. Encryption's not legal on the FRS/GMRS. I'm pretty sure
that commercial comms aren't legal with 'em either. I know we see some stores and shops using them from time to time but it ain't what it was intended for. I couldn't venture a guess about commercial licensees. They've got to be paying good money for the bandwidth and have a legitimate need for privacy ($$$). Good luck. o_o_o_o Best Regards, /| ,[_____], Jim, WP3JQ |¯¯¯L --O|||||||O- ()_)¯()_) ¯¯¯¯¯ )_) EM60qk 30.447439N 086.628959W "dave d" wrote in message . com... This might be off topic for the group, but does anyone here know if amateur-style packet can legally be used on FRS and/or GMRS? I am looking to build a low-cost data system for family use (I never could get my kid licensed) and possibly for a small business. Also, is encryption legal in these bands? I know that encryption is not legal in the amateur bands, but I also know that at least rudimentary encryption is used on some business radios. Any help or pointers appreciated.
