Default [DXNL] DXNL 1585 (Aug 20, 2008)

DXNL 1585 - Aug 20, 2008
DX Newsletter

a free and weekly service of
DARC Committee "DX and HF contesting"

editor: Helmut Schlaffer, DL7MAE
(e-mail: )

translation by: Bob, DL7VOA
(e-mail:
)

C6 - BAHAMAS, NA-080
Frank,K3TRM, intends to be active as C6ARM from NA-080 from Aug 18-28.
He plans to work in SSB, CW and RTTY on 80m-10m.
QSL cards should be sent direct or via bureau to his homecall.

CN - MOROCCO
The call CN33M can be found on the air until Aug 26. The OP is CN8PA
and QSL cards should be sent via EA7FTR.

GJ - JERSEY ISLAND, EU-013
Oliver,MJ/OE5OHO, Henry,MJ/OE5HDN, and Gerhard,MJ/OE3GEA, will be QRV
in holiday style working in CW/SSB on all HF bands from Aug 21-26.
Please send your QSLs preferably via bureau to the specific operator.

KP2 - US VIRGIN ISLANDS, NA-106
Jaime,WP3A, plans to show up as KP2B from St. Croix (NA-106) in CW
on 10m/15m/20m/40m and maybe also in SSB on 10m/15m after Aug 20.
QSL via EA7FTR.

KP5 - DESECHEO ISLAND, NA-095
The group which announced to activate Desecheo as K5D during November
probably was a little too optimistic (see DXNL 1584). Though the OPDX
published a special bulletin announcing something new it turned out
that DXpeditioners are urged to submit a concept for a DXpedition to
the responsible "United States Fish and Wildlife Service" (USFWS) until
August 14. The final selection will be made based upon which proposal
best satisfies USFWS requirements. If at all a possible operation could
take place any time between September and December 2008. The last
amateur radio activity from Desecheo which was approved for DXCC credit
was made by KP5/N3KS and KP5/K3LP in December 2005.

TA - TURKEY, IOTA-new
Karl,TA0/WA2KBZ, is active from Buyukada Island (no IOTA reference yet)
until Sep 1. Buyukada Island is situated in the Sea of Marmara. Karl is
working with 60 watts and a dipole mostly in CW on 40m/30m/20m/17m.
QSL via homecall.

TN - CONGO
Nicolas,F8FQX (
http://www.f8fqx.fr), starts his soujourn in Congo
lasting three to four years on Aug 20. He applied for the call TN5SN
and hopes to become active in CW/SSB/RTTY/PSK31 on 160-6m by the end
of October or beginning of November. QSL via IZ1BZV.

VK9/C - COCOS (KEELING) ISLANDS, OC-003
Giovanni,I5JHW, announced to hit the airwaves as VK9CJW from Aug 22-29.
He will activate OC-003 working in a holiday style in SSB/RTTY on
10m/12m/15m/17m/20m/40m using a linear amplifier and a multi-band
vertical antenna.
QSL cards will be confirmed by Giovanni himself direct or via bureau
after his return home. See also: http://www.ik5run.it/vk9cjw.htm

ZD9 - TRISTAN DA CUNHA AND GOUGH ISLANDS, AF-029
After his several months lasting activity from St. Helena (more than
45.000 QSOs) Tom (ex-ZD7X) is now staying in South Africa from where
he planned to travel to Tristan da Cunha. Latest rumours are not so
good for an operation as ZD9X from AF-029. If he is not able to become
active from Tristan da Cunha Tom thinks about moving to Qatar (A7) or
another Asiatic country.

ZS - REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA
Franz,DL3PS/HB9EHQ, will be on a business trip in Johannesburg
between Aug 25 and Sep 12. He plans to become QRV as ZS6/DL3PS
in SSB/CW and digital modes on 10m bis 80m during his spare time.
QSL direct or via bureau to HB9EHQ.

5Z - KENYA
Valery,RW1AU, is working in Nairobi at the moment and sometimes shows
up as 5Z4/RW1AU from the clubstation 5Z4RS. Lacking a morse key Valery
is working in SSB only at the moment. He will stay there for a few
months and his QSL manager is K5XK.

9L - SIERRA LEONE
Karl-Heinz,DK2WV, who was active as 9L0W in June had a meeting with the
president of the University of Freetown and discussed the possibilities
of starting an amateur radio class. His application was accepted and
thus Karl-Heinz,DK2WV, Roland,DJ4LK, Franz,DJ9ZB, Hans,DL1YFF, and a
local OM will tackle this project from Oct 21 until Nov 11, 2008.
Furthermore they will be QRV as 9L0W on 6-160m with three stations
simultaneously (including amplifiers). They are looking for sponsors
because they still need 14.000 US$. If you like to support this project
please send an e-mail to Karl-Heinz:

SPAIN - SPECIAL EVENT STATIONS
AO5FI will be activated during the Formula 1 GP (Valencia, Aug 24)
from Aug 22-24. QSL via EA5URV.
Other amateurs from the region may use special prefixes like ED and AO.

S2 - BANGLADESH
The ARRL spreads the news that there will be new amateur radio exams
and licences in Bangladesh soon. The last licences were issued in 2004.
Yet it is not clear whether stations which were active from Bangladesh
after 2004 will be accepted for DXCC credit. Exams will be given on a
monthly basis beginning on Aug 13.

SILENT KEY
The American OPDX Bulletin writes that "Rod" Gagnon,VE2NN, passed away
on Jul 14. He was a much sought QSO partner from zone 2 for many years.
---
The firefighter Bob Leek,VE3TFD, died after an explosion of propane on
Aug 10 at the very young age of 25 years.

DXCC: The DXCC Yearbook 2007 will be published during these days and the
DXCC manager Bill Moore,NC1L, points out that there will be a corrected
DXCC Honor Roll list included. Like announced before the list which was
printed in the QST was not correct. The DXCC Yearbook 2007 includes
also several DXpedition reports and the current standings of the
Clinton B. DeSoto Cup and the DXCC Challenge. With 16 additional pages
it is the largest yearbook ever and free of charge for all those ARRL
members who submitted their QSLs to the DXCC Desk last year. Non ARRL
members can buy it for 5 US$ plus postage and should send an e-mail to
the DXCC Desk ).

SOTA: LA, SM and S5 became new active chapters within the SOTA program
during this year. Several attempts of Luc,ON6DSL, to activate a summit
on SV9 in August were not successful because the QRM is tremendous
in the Cretan mountains. The few "mountains" in The Netherlands will
be added to the SOTA program on Sep 1.

LINKS: Current SOTA activities (mountain summits) are announced at:
http://www.sotawatch.org

Detailed information about current VHF activities can be found on the
VHF DX portal "Make More Miles on VHF" at: http://www.MMMonVHF.de

The online logbook of YU8/S56M can be found at: http://s50clx.infrax.si
---
A list of operations which were not approved for DXCC credit can be
downloaded from: http://www.lynxdxg.com/novalidas/novalidas.htm
---
The "CW Skimmer" enjoys a growing popularity within the DX and contest
communities. This is a software which scans the band for DX stations
working in CW and helps the operator with this tiresome work. Using
this software in CQ contests will move you to the assisted category
automatically: http://www.radio-sport.net/skimmer_cqww.htm

IOTA collected by Fredy,DE0MST (e-mail: )
----
Island activities:
AS-027, R0K, Vrangelya (Vrangel) Island: There is a good possibility that
Vrangel Island will show up on the bands by the end of August.
The team will try to activate AS-027 during the expedition of the
"Akademik Fedorov" to put up the drifting polar base SP36. The calls
will be UE0MAC/0, UA6LP/0 and RZ6MZ/0 but the exact date of the
operation depends on the Arctic weather.

EU-017, ID9, Eolie (Lipari) Islands: Marco,ID9/IZ3GNG, is working from
Lipari Island (IIA ME-001) from Aug 20-22. QSL via homecall.

EU-048, F, Bretagne (Morbihan) Region Group: The French "Sevran F5KKD ARC
Gulls Team" plans an activity as F5KKD/p from Belle-Ile-en-Mer (AT-015)
from Aug 20-24. QSL via F5KKD (direct/bureau).

EU-068, F, Bretagne (Finistere SW) Region: David,F4FDA/p, Dimitri,F0FLH/p,
and Bastien,F4EYQ/p, are working from Sein Island (AT-007) from
Aug 20-24. QSL via F5KKD (bureau/direct).
