Hi,

A few of the local rs stores here in raleigh nc are very good,
many hams will work there during holiday season and one is
managed by a current ham.

The only turn off is I forget to stop at an atm so I can pay cash
and not use any plastic so they can't track me !

I like http://mouser.com for most stuff, no min. order and FAST ship,
and if I can wait, http://allcorp.com for misc cables and items.

Radio Shack has parts that I cannot obtain without mail order or driving
quite some miles. I have a RS store only two miles from my home and
that makes it real good when I need a resitor or cap for a project.

I don't think Radio Shack is useless and I'm a serious ham for 43 years.

I use Mouser also, but when I only need one or two resistors which I may
not have in my inventory Radio Shack usually comes thru.

Hey, its a good thing.....

They should take the word "Radio" out of the name of the stores. The

RS has been pretty much useless to serious amateur radio ops ever since
they did away with their Allied Radio (of Chigago) affiliation...

Rat Shack works. It's a rat operation anyway.

- it looks like amateur radio is now officially dead at Radio Shack

- the company no longer lists any transceivers, and appears to have
dropped its only HT from the on-line catalog

- there are still some accessories for sale, but all seem to be
third-party

- it looks like the sell-off (which began several years ago) is now
complete: no HTs, no mobile VHF/HF units, and no more amateur radios

- but you can get your NASCAR scanner, belt accessories and headphones!
(and a cellphone and satellite TV service)

whoo hoo!

:P
