Joseph Fenn wrote: Last responder said it gets power from the phone line itself. That is a negative. If true then when I unplugged both the AC adapter and the ph line plug it would have lost all its SET-UP info instantly. I had to unplug the ph plug and the adapter, take it down to the local Radio-Shack and they then Pluged it into the Ph line and plugged in the AC adapter. All my settings and stored memories stayed in tack as I had set them. So your assumption that the Ph line power keeps the setup chip active is wrong. Also removing the AC adapter did not loose the SET-UP settings. Only thing I wanted to change was "change rings to 2, then announcement to leave a msg after tone goes out. The guy at Radio Shack did replug it in to his ph line, replugged the ac adapter in, and proceeded to change the nr of rings to 2 rings then announce. He did it so fast I could'nt even see which setup key he changed the rings from 7 down to 2. So obviously some kind of chip in the phone does'nt rely on any external power source to keep its setup info active. Joe (someone suggested it might be Flash chip whatever that is.) Bzzzt, Wrong Assumption.....would you like to try for what's behind Door #2.... it would only take a couple "Kbytes" to hold ALL your settings, in EEProm or Flash Memory..... Google is your Friend if you need to get yourself up to speed on what Flash Memory is....... Seems like technology has passed you by, sonny..... |

HI!HI! Jonesy Yep it sure is a shame Also my ICOM751 oughta have something like that too for the 32 memory channels instead of a backup battery. Years back I started loosing stuff like the 10 meter band, then the 15 meter band dissappeared, then 20 meters and finally all I had left was 40 meter band. I had heard of a guy in Italy that made a replacement board for the IC751, and once installed you would never loose any operting system bands. I ordered the board from him and sure enuff it was as hugeas the original and I figured I'll never get this thing plugged in right so I sent the Rig up to an ICOM repair center I thing was in Oregon ot Washn STate. I asked them to fix the rig and at same time install that ram board I bought. They did it and now I will never loose the operating system again although the Italian I bought the Ramboard from said your safe now as far as the operating system is concerned, but the one backup battery when it goes down you will loose the 32 memory chmls only. YOu sill still be able to tune up on any freqcy you like however. So thats where I am now. What a relief. Joe |

I use to burn my own rom chip in the old C64 commodore computer and understood how to do that, but at 87 I am a little befuddled on these recent things like "flash memory" chips. I also takeing Namenda pills for AD (alzheimers deficit). Can remember things way back but for past 24 hours I have to write everything down then forget where I put the notes to myself. What a miserable life. Joe |

HI!HI! Jonesy Jonesy, That Azden PCS-4000 I removed the internal battery which was supposed to hold the memory chnls in place and ran the 2 leads out the back of the rig and tied em to a little "AAA" battery holder to replace the one I removed from inside. It still dont hold the memories I crank up so that was time wasted. I tried both the rechargeable external aaa's and then tried two AAA's regular kind but still no way to keep the memory chnls after setting them up. Joe |
