Thoughts on Ramsey kits?

Of the ramsey kits I have assembled, I have to say I was overwhelmingly
underwhelmed. Save your money.

Ditto...they're marginal quality, marginal design, and marginal (or worse)
performance.

They are probably good kits for a yongster, to get them interested in
radio, or find out how interested they are. But I won't buy any more
of them for serious use.

Only thing is, after assembling the kit then finding out it dosen't work
as described, they may be discouraged.

New to this discussion...

Can anyone suggest other kit manufactures?

Depends on what you want...

I assume you're looking for ham radio stuff...

For well designed, relatively inexpensive kits, try Small Wonder Labs...
http://www.smallwonderlabs.com/
Really well engineered stuff, and Dave is a great guy.

For high-end kits, Elecraft: http://www.elecraft.com/
Excellent design, quality, & performance but not cheap.

Ten-tec still sells kits: http://www.tentec.com/Amateur.htm

Many of the QRP clubs offer decent, inexpensive kits from time to time.

I'm sure there are others...

Any of these will likely be much better than something from Ramsey, altho
probably a bit more expensive (but worth it in the long run)...

No financial interest in any of the above, just passing along info...
