I nee a laptop that is PIII or P4 that has a serial port, running Windows XP or 2000 for my ham radio programs.Only problem is I will be trading a mint condition Kenwood TM-V7 dual band ham radio for the laptop.Let me know what you got.I would prefer a local area swap that way we won't have to see who is going to ship first.Tahnks for looking. Why not just get an older laptop running Windows 98 or Me for your ham programs. That's what I did. Got an old Sony laptop that works great. I only use it in the Jeep with GPS programs or programming the Kenwood D700A. If I am at home I just use the home computer. My regular laptop doesn't have a serial port either, and I gave up trying to use a USB to Serial adapter. I agree that an older computer running Win98SE *should* be more than adequate for handling ham radio applications, but the author of my favorite ham radio program, Ham Radio Deluxe, says that he doesn't always test minor updates of his program (e.g., the recent one that added rotator control) with Win98SE or WinME and that with the next major update he may declare WinXP to be the only officially supported OS.
