High frequency AC (like many kilohertz and beyond) should be less dangerous since it will be bound by "skin effect" and not penetrate as far into your chest cavity. DC is considerably safer than 60Hz AC, and I've read some estimates saying you need 4 times as much current to die from DC shocks. I don't know if I believe that though; I suspect there are too few cases to draw significant statistical conclusions. As I understand it (and I may be wrong here), DC is safer than AC because it doesn't cause ventricular fibrillation, so death by these shocks occur from organ damage and falling off ladders and things. When I worked as an RO in the Merchant Navy I found I could light my
cigarette by holding on to the overhead copper aerial feeder while simultaneously keying the transmitter on MW (say 480 or 512 Khz) ....only when I couldn't find my lighter. Actually, they ARE supposed to be conductive- at least to the tune of about
a megohm. In any operation that is serious about antistatic procedures, the mats, wrist straps, and other equipment are to be tested periodically. Most testers show if a mat reads open right away. I've also read that Edison created and promoted the electric chair, which was run from AC, to dramatize the danger of AC over DC. He had a big investment in DC distribution systems and equipment, while Westinghouse was promoting AC power distribution. Actually, I should have said a megohm for a ground strap and 10 megohms or

An acquaintance was working on some plumbing Saturday in one of
several houses under construction in a new subdivision in Albuquerque (New Mexico), and there was a lightning strike into another of the houses, a few hundred feet away. He told me he got knocked flat and so did his helper. Albq is, as many will know, in high desert country, and the ground is *anything* but wet, so buried pipes aren't particularly useful as earth ground.
