Repositioned as Positively Buffalo, the station has moved to a locally produced full-service format as opposed to the mostly satellite delivered programming it had been featuring. Planning a Grand Opening for July 10, the station has begun to roll-out the names of longtime Buffalo radio personalities who will be joining the station. John Zach, a longtime newscaster in the market at 550 WGR, 930 WBEN, and 1520 WKBW, will join the station as News Director and morning news anchor. Zach had exited WBEN at the end of 2016 following eighteen years at the station. Other personalities who will join WECK include former 104.1 WHTT and 106.5 WYRK morning co-host Gail Ann Huber, who will join incumbent morning host Tom Donahue, Jon Summers who will host from 9am-12p, and Harv Moore who will host 12-3pm. Danny Neaverth will come out of retirement to host afternoons on Fridays from 3-7pm. WECK Radio (AM 1230 FM 102.9) announces John Zach will join the station as News Director on July 10th. Zach, a voice trusted by Buffalonians since 1961, was most recently heard as morning news anchor at WBEN, where he worked since 1998. He is also well-known for his many years behind the radio microphone at WKBW and WGR. The addition of CBS Radio News also greatly enhances the information elements on WECK, which is shifting away from mostly syndicated and satellite programming to a live and local full-service format, under new local ownership. In addition to leading the news department, Zach, a 2002 inductee into Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame, will anchor news on WECK’s weekday morning show. He has decades of experience as a news director. “John Zach is the dean of radio news in Buffalo,” stated Buddy Shula, Owner President of Radio One Buffalo, LLC. “We are very honored and excited to have John as part of our growing team of broadcasters at Buffalo’s Very Own WECK. His credible and trusted voice has been missed in our community.” “I am looking forward to working with the WECK team to give Buffalo the information needed to start the day,” said Zach. “I can’t wait to get back on the air.” WECK has signed an affiliation agreement to bring CBS Radio News back to Buffalo, and will air hourly newscasts, 24-hours-a-day. WECK has plans to increase local news coverage under Zach’s leadership. The station will be announcing the addition of some well-known Western New York voices in the days ahead.
