Default Help: EDACS ProVoice Digital

I read on a web site that Florida Highway Patrol, Troop C, has joined other
state agencies on a new EDACS ProVoice digital system. (On another forum
they're saying that FHP is using encryption.) If the ProVoice info is
correct, can this be monitored with the newest TrunkTrackers like the Uniden
BC796?

Thanks.
Greg

If the use of encryption is correct, nope.

Most of the time they get the info from "someone" at the cop shop. The cops
are told they are encrypted when it is simply digital.

I was covering a story about the local Sheriff on a ride along. He told me
the new radio system was encrypted and that it was against the law for
anyone to listen to them.

I didn't pull out my Pro-96 and bust his bubble... It never dawned on them
how I always appear at newsworthy locations shortly after they do.

When our county first went on a Motorola type II trunked system, a sheriff's
deputy mistakenly told me it was illegal to monitor them. I didn't argue
the point.

The info at timhobson.com: Tampa Area Scanner Freqs
(http://www.timhobson.com/scanner.html) seems authoritative and indicates
that the FHP is now on EDACS ProVoice digital. Maybe that's why the users
of the forum I read thought they were encrypting. It doesn't make sense
that they would use encryption on the ProVoice system, does it?

Assuming they are on ProVoice and not encrypted, will the BC796 pick them
up?

No, there is nothing currently on the market that will do ProVoice.
