How about compared to a 4 ft. CB stainless steel whip?

When base loaded: It's good for 25 - 35 Mhz
When centre loaded: You may cut/adjust the tip to your preferred freqs
When top loaded: It makes a good performer from 27 to 500Mhz
At least it is much more rugged than a teleskopic whip.
A teleskopic antenna has has the advantage that it can be adjusted to
the frequency you want to receive within a very wide range.
