Default Some scanners missing at Radio Shack

"Bill Crocker" wrote in message

You may see some changes coming up with Radio Shack's scanner line-up!

No longer listed on their web site:

PRO-95 (expected)
PRO-2051 (expected)
PRO-2052 (expected)
PRO-2096 (not expected)

Bill Crocker

Why the Pro-2052 ? It's an excellent scanner.

The price ended in $x.97, so its demise was expected. RS changes the
price like that when an item is doing to be discontinued.

I didn't necessarily mean "how" one could detect if a R.S. product will be
discontinued but "why" R.S. would discontinue such an excellent scanner as
the Pro-2052. I'm missing some obscure fact as to why the R.S. execs. would
chose to axe this particular scanner when they came out with such inferior
scanners that desperately need to be axed.

I have another question, the two times I tried to order the computer program
that would allow me to control the scanner from my computer met with
comments like: They discontinued that, or We can't get it in this store.
Anyone know the "real" story of the advertised computer program that some,
including myself, couldn't get ?

H.J. (still programming my scanner with one finger instead of ten)

RS's rationale isn't how good a scanner is, it's how profitable it is.

The "inferior" ones bring in profit - the axed ones don't. It's not
obscure at all.

Which program are you talking about? The only one RS ever sold (that
I know of) is discontinued, and it wasn't all that good to begin with.
Get Don Starr's program for whichever scanner you have, and you won't
be sorry. (I have nothing to do with either RS or Don, but I write
software and I recognize good stuff when I see [and use] it.)

You are correct that Don Starr writes excellent software, ie; Win95, Win96,
Win97, etc. Unfortunately he doesn't write software for the PRO-2052. All
of Don's software is for Radio Shack (GRE manufactured) radios. The Radio
Shack PRO-2052 is manufactured for them by Uniden.

Some of the software that supports the PRO-2052 is:

ScanPro2052
ScanControl
ScanCat Lite Plus

You're right, Bill. I don't keep up with RS's model numbers. But if
it's Uniden the command set should be pretty easy to figure out.

I hear ya Al! I couldn't keep up either if it wasn't for being out of work,
and bored to death! LOL! They change models like Michigan's weather
changes!
