"Bill Mutch" wrote in message ... Looking for power X-former to replace one from National NC-125 boatanchor RCVR which shorted secondary to chassis two evenings ago. Need 117 vac primary, secondaries 300 vac @ 100 ma, 6.3 vac filaments @ 3 amps, 5.0 vac @ 2 amps optional. (I can convert rectifier to solid state.) ............big snip.............. Not eloquent, and maybe even a little hair raising, but if only one short to ground it can be fixed (OK, klutched) by insulating the transformer core and frame from the chassis. Lynn, W7LTQ (who does not necessarily recommend this "fix") That may turn into a dangerous solution.. it's good that you don't recommend it. I would think that a 'turn to turn' short is more likely than a turn to frame short. If there is more than one turn of the winding being shorted, the turns ratio will be changed, altering the output. The voltage on the out side goes up if the primary winding count is reduced and it goes down if it's the secondary windings getting together. mike |
