TMT As far as the Error 3, that is caused by a problem with the AA batteries that power the memory and CPU. If the batteries themselves are okay, then you may have to *gently* bend the clips that hold the batteries. From what I've read, this is a somewhat common problem with the 2010. If you search the Yahoo 2010 group, you will find more detailed descriptions and fixes for this. The problem is Sony didn't hardwire one of the AA battery terminals to the PC board. Instead they used a pointed contact on the terminal which touches a solder pad on the microprocessor board. Over time this contact can become unreliable, causing the AA battery circuit to open intermittently. The microprocessor senses this problem and produces the error message. The solution is to bypass the pointed contact on the AA battery terminal with a short wire soldered to the microprocessor board. This is what the other AA terminal uses. However it's not easy to access the location where the bypass wire needs to be installed. I recall having to completely remove the main PC board and partially remove the microprocessor board under the main board, to get to the AA battery terminal area. It was worth the effort though. The error message problem is gone now on my 2010. |

TMT Tecsun/Eton/Grundig are now Chinese-made junk - the Eton E1 has had a host of quality-control problems, including the batteries blowing up, when used with the AC adaptor. The Sony ICF-2010 is/was the best portable ever made - Sony is by far the best manufacturer. I have a hand-held Sony ICF-S10MK2 AM/FM $10 radio, that out-performs my digital PLL radios. |

TMT Forgot to mention, that the Eton E1 does not even have an internal ferrite-bar antenna, so you have to use an external antenna for AM, and although Satellite Radio ready, doesn't come with an antenna - at that price, absolutely ridiculous ! **** Eton ! |

I got to play with an E1 a couple of months ago. While it doesn't have a
loopstick antenna for MW, it did work quite well on that band. When did they stop making this radio in India? Pete wrote in message ps.com... I have no idea, why a loop stick antenna was not supplied - all I can say, is that with my miserable experience with the Tecsun/Etcon/Grundig cheap crap S350, I will never go near Tecsun/Etcon/Grundig, or Sangean again - I have had excellent experiences with Sonys. |

If the only experience you have with Eton is the S350, you are clueless. Why don't you post back here when you have something meaningful to offer. gfy -- "Don't get too wrapped up in dogma. TMT Of course, the Eton E1, not even a contest. 1070's Volswagen technology vs. Eprom technology. YMMV, taxes can be variable..........:-) |
