Default Eton E10 Quick Review

I have had my Eton E10 for two months now and I am quite pleased with
it. I bought it mainly because it was on sale and had 550 memories,
but as I used it I found it to be one of my favourites. Compared to my
Sony SW7600G, it was just as sensitive, sounded a bit better, and was
just as easy to use. Of course, it lacked the Sony synchronous
detection and ssb, but the bandwidths were ok. The rubberized finish
feels good and there is a little pull-out base rest that prevents
tip-over.
Things I like: It is sensitive, stable (no drift), the display is a
good size except for some minor functions, the menu is easy to learn
and use in the dark, the antenna trim control is useful, and it sounds
good. It is easy to cart around and has enough volume.
Things I didn't like: The base rest needs to be altered so that is
firmer in the out position, the pushbuttons are a little small. and the
supplied rechargeable NiMh cell were of low capacity so I replaced them
with 2300 Energizers that give days of playing. Actually, there isn't
much to dislike about the radio.
I was surprised that I didn't find any images on the sw bands, unusual
for a single superhet. I am in a low-signal area though, and the
signals were weak due to the sun acting up. I may not be the best at
nit-picking. I remember carting around the Zenith 3000 to listen to
short wave, and these new small radios seem like marvellous engineering
developments to me.
