Hooking Up Long Wire Antenna To Eton E1
how exactly do i hook up my random wire antenna to the eton e1 without
creating all sorts of impedance mismatches? i know i have to get the pal to F connector adapter, but once that's in place, how do i hook it up actually? |

Once you get the PAL to F adapter, you can run RG6 (CATV coax available
at Radio Shack) to your antenna. The impedance of a random wire wire varies considerably over the shortwave spectrum so you shouldn't worry too much about impedance matches, but a 4:1 or 9:1 balun or matching transformer between the antenna and the coax will help things some and will allow you to put a ground to earth right near the antenna. You could also put a 1:1 transformer between the coax and the radio and that will help to keep down any common mode noise that may be picked up by the antenna coax. thanks-- but how do i hook the coax lead to the random wire? On Jan 19, 11:36 pm, "Rob" wrote: Once you get the PAL to F adapter, you can run RG6 (CATV coax available at Radio Shack) to your antenna. Google for Long wire balun or Magnetic balun and look around. The
antenna typically ties to a terminal on the balun, there's usually a ground connection and a coax connection to run back into your house.
