Default Problem with a new Eton E1 - sound familiar to anyone?

I just got a new (as in "not refurbished") E1XM, but three of the six
"soft buttons" don't seem to work some of the time. (Not only don't
they do anything, they don't even make the beep the other ones do.)
The buttons that aren't working are the second, third, and fourth
buttons from the left below the display (i.e. the AGC, RW, and PBT
buttons in AM/SW mode, and the Favorites A and B and Display Channel
Name buttons in XM mode. I tried unplugging the radio and doing a
microprocessor reset, but those didn't work...then I tried saving a
channel as a favorite in XM mode by pressing "Store", and when it
asked for "A" or "B", the buttons started working again.

Has anybody else had similar symptoms with their E1/E1XM - and if so,
is there a permanent fix (short of "send it back for repair")?

See, I told Brian Hill, that his Eaton **** E1 is just another over-
priced, over-hyped, cheap, Chinese-made Eton - look at the over-priced
$150 E5/G5, when one can basicaaly get the same receiver as the Degen
1103 for $65. And, we all know about the horrendously over-priced,
over-hyped cheap plastic boxed/switches piece-of-**** S350, and S350
look-alikes !

Haven't had this problem, but it seems that I did hear of an instance
back in late 2005, when the radio was just released, of someone
getting a unit where some of those round buttons below the display
were somewhat recessed and were difficult to press.

If you've only just purchased the unit, I'd suggest that you send it
back to the retailer for an exchange.

Should have bought an IBOC-HD radio.

They don't work some of the time? Well, under which conditions do
they work.

(Not only don't

I'm totally confused now. Do some of the buttons work some of the
time, all of the buttons work some of the time or some of the buttons
not work at all.

The buttons that aren't working are the second, third, and fourth
buttons from the left below the display (i.e. the AGC, RW, and PBT
buttons in AM/SW mode, and the Favorites A and B and Display Channel
Name buttons in XM mode.

Are there some modes in which they are inoperative?

I tried unplugging the radio and doing a
microprocessor reset, but those didn't work...then I tried saving a

Since it is new and with a warranty have you contacted Eton customer
services? They have several phone and email links and a fax number.
Since it is so new I would just return it to the authorized dealer you
bought it from for a replacement.
