Default New Country on The Air

A new SW country is apparently on the air!

Micronesia on 4755.16, probably running 500 watts per previous indications.

Heard by Japanese DX'er S.Hasegawa at 0828 on March 2.

Apparently operated by Pacific Missionary Aviation, in Pohnpei, Micronesia.

It will be interesting to see what their actual schedule is.

Doesn't Micronesia have the Marshall Islands? Kwajelein has had hams
for decades. It's part of the US Pacific missle range.

Yes, I suppose it does, but that's a seperate group. Under the rules, I believe
that the Federated States of Micronesia would be a new country under the NASWA
rules.

Kwajelein has had hams
for decades.

We're talking SWBC here!

I fortunately heard and QSL'd WSZO on March 21, 1987, on 4940 kHz.

A somewhat short lived operation.

Federated States of Micronesia and Republic of the Marshall Islands are
two different countries. Ham radio prefix V6 for Micronesia, V7 for
Marshalls. (they were different countries, at least for ham purposes,
before independence as well; KC6 for Micronesia, KX6 for the Marshalls)
