Was wondering if it is safe to listen to Shortwave radio without
terribly long external antenna during such time. I actually like the
crackle pops along with the fading audio. Would I damage the radio by
doing this? Radio is Sony 2010 with about 10 ft. long antenna slung
near the window.

TIA

ish,

Save your Sony ICF-2010 Receiver {They are Collectors Items}
-and- Use a Low Cost 'portable' AM/FM Shortwave Radio instead.

Listening to the Radio {Safely} During a Thunder & Lightning Storm :

1 - Use Battery Power Only
- No AC Power Connection at all.
- Ground Wire Connection at all.

2 - Use the Radio's built-in Whip Antenna Only
- No External Antenna at all.
- Stay away from Windows.

3 - Insulate Yourself from Everything
- Lay Flat on your Back in the middle of the Floor with
a Pillow under your head away from everything.
- Touch Nothing and have the Radio at Arms length.
- Stay away from Metal Objects

now - relax and enjoy listening to your radio -until-
the hairs start to stand-up all over your body . . .

Ever wonder why they use Fiberglass Poles in a Tent ?

Good quality tents use aluminum poles. Question is, how many poles
would be required to constitute a Faraday cage if you did get struck?
