"tom k in L.A." wrote in message ... so what is the future of shortwave? when africa gets broadband, will it be gone? I think broadcasting of all types will continue in it's various forms. You will still hear AM, FM, SSB, and new forms like Digital. What will change is the recieiving equipment to include the new forms of transmission. Remember when Star Trek's Uhuru says something like "it's an old style radio wave, amplitude modulated"? HF shortwave will always be useful for specialized applications, but is unlikely to serve general broadcasting in the long term. Michael |
