Looks like a great little radio for general AM SW listening with some
good specs.
I really like the portatop battery operation for holiday operation,
especialy at a coastal cottage.

However, my most important feature for a $700 portatop would be a
really top class synchronous upper and lower sideband detector, like
the Drake SW2 (and Grundig Sat 800). Can't undesratnd why that radio
was not more popular and had to be dropped (the SW2).

I'm not sure how it will perform against an Icom IC-R75 in the same
price range - some specs are better and some worse.
Anyway, for those who buy it = enjoy - it's a great little RX.

Have fun and good listening.

I had one when it was relatively new (muRata filters not Collins).
While it was quite a good radio, what I lacked was not AM-sync but
good enough resolution to facilitate distortion-free ECSS listening.
DX-ing splits was rather awkward because of this, and the main reason
why I parted with it. It was replaced with an R-75 which facilitated
ECSS much better.

Bjarne-

What I was really saying is that the Palstar R30 will make a nice
radio for listening to the AM broadcast bands.

Bjarne is dead right, the Icom IC-R75 will run rings around it when it
comes to serious DX though.

For those of you fella's that don't know Bjarne he is one of the
worlds top DXer's and is very modest about his great DX catches and
his many excellent equipment reviews to be found on his blogspot that
he doesn't advertise.

You will see lots of useful info on his site:
http://arcticdx.blogspot.com/
including sone stuff on the R75

Hi John. thanks for the web site. nice. i'm with you on
the Palstar. it goes to my favorite park when the weather
is clear. i just wish it had a better battery set-up. i
like the Lowe 150 batteries from the rear better. but, it
is a fine receiver, big seller in Europe under the Lowe
350 mark. and, i feel they are pricing themselves out of
a narrow market.
