Best reception here in many years, but not enough for a repectable
reception report. Could occasionally detect voice or music, but most
was not intelligible. Clearly heard the start of an ID "Radio
Saint...." around 2320. Actually, the best reception was a few
seconds around 2228 when they were supposed to be aimed to Europe.
The last few years, could not even get this much.

QTH is San Jose, California. Receiver is a Drake R-8. Antenna is a
sloping long wire about 10m long and oriented roughly to the south.

Sunspots will increase under Obama, so better reception is expected in
the coming years.

Oddly enough, about an hour or so later when I turned on the Sat-800 again ,
oddly, reception had gotten great even though the weather hadn't changed!!
Reception here just *had* to be bad for the St. Helena broadcast didn't it
grumble grumble

Why would your weather have anything to do with SW reception? (Other than
T-storm interference)

they moved the beam and dropped out here. i'm getting a swishing
type noise here. the storms are slowly moving away. i need some
of that magic you use out there Ace.

Sandy soil?

Morning Ace. I have seen you scores on NASWA. you got a little
something extra going for you out there. could be magic, good
receivers, good antennas, etc. you make the rest of us look
like beginners.

A fairly quiet location, and I think the transformer matched wires work well
too.

Always remember, everyone is starts as a beginner, and when something new and
exotic comes on we all go back to square one to hear it.

But hey, thanks for the happy thoughts!

Hi,

For some reason when the weather here in Windsor/Detroit is crappy,
reception for the most part seems to suck. We had heavy rain, lots of wind
and for a while t-storms. The t-storms were occurring during the St. Helena
broadcast

Oddly enough, about an hour or so later when I turned on the Sat-800
again ,
oddly, reception had gotten great even though the weather hadn't
changed!!

2000z time pips clear then signature tune
2002z welcoming speech starts with fair reception
2003z - they must have swung the beam as reception becomes very weak
and unreadable.

Sadly their schedule doesn't beam South to me = pity
